W.Hoffmann Vision V 8 upright: an affordable concert piano

The W.Hoffmann piano brand already existed in Berlin in the early 20th century and was taken over by C. Bechstein in 1992. Today, the W.Hoffmann instruments are made by C. Bechstein Europe at its Czech production site and the Vision series echoes the great piano brand’s tradition. The W.Hoffmann Vision V 8 concert piano, also called “pianoforte” in the past, will impress you with its noble look, powerful sound, fine nuances and elegant classic case design. Don’t compromise on the brand of your piano! C. Bechstein Europe makes top-quality instruments.

Valuable components and quality manufacturing

Despite its affordable price, the V 8 concert piano boasts a wealth of quality details: all strings, for example, are held in place by agraffes in order to improve the sound precision and purity; moreover, this piano comes with three pedals, including a moderator. According to the German C. Bechstein manufacturing tradition, all affordable pianos within the Vision series are voiced manually “by hand and ear”.

A concert piano that speaks for itself

Experienced piano makers at the C. Bechstein Europe production site determine and test all components of the V 8 pianoforte and perform all quality assurance procedures. Like other instruments within the Vision series, this model boasts a back frame made of medium-hard solid wood. The soundboard and its ribs are made of spruce, the bridges and the pin block of hard wood. The other quality features include the hammerheads, which are covered with English felt and voiced “by hand and ear”. Nonetheless, the V 8 upright remains affordable! C. Bechstein Europe offers a five-year warranty for this piano of lasting quality made in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic.

Specifications

W.Hoffmann Vision Line

SOUNDBOARD:

Soundboard made of solid mountain spruce, reinforced on both sides with 0.5 mm special soundboard veneer. Thanks to the carefully selected grain orientation of the reinforcement, the soundboard remains elastic and highly responsive—unlike conventional laminated soundboards—while also being less sensitive to climate fluctuations. Ribs made of solid mountain spruce and bridges made of solid red beech with red beech bridge caps.

BACK FRAME – UPRIGHT PIANO:

Five solid, generously dimensioned back posts made of laminated pine form the stable backbone of the upright piano. The high-quality mortise-and-tenon construction supports the vibrating soundboard and absorbs bending forces from the cast iron frame. Soundboard supports made of solid red beech. This premium, climate-stable construction guarantees impressive sound volume and excellent tuning stability.

BACK FRAME – GRAND PIANO:

Depending on the model, three to four solid, generously dimensioned back posts made of laminated pine form the stable backbone of the grand piano and absorb bending forces from the cast iron frame. The rim beam and the soundboard support mounted on it are made of solid red beech.

PINBLOCK:

High-quality pinblock material made of cross-laminated and compressed beech veneers for reliable, even tuning and long-term tuning stability (Delignit).

TUNING PINS:

High-quality tuning pins made of nickel-plated steel. Balanced torque, low torsion, excellent tunability and tuning stability, with plate bushings.

CAST IRON FRAME:

To withstand the enormous string tension, the cast iron frame provides the necessary structural stability. Thanks to careful dimensioning and the traditional technique of manual sand casting, the frame also contributes positively to the tonal characteristics.

STRINGING:

The strings, made of high-quality, tear-resistant piano wire and valuable copper wire, are precisely calculated to achieve maximum possible string lengths, balanced registers with a harmonious overtone structure, and excellent tuning stability.

C. BECHSTEIN DYNAMIC TOUCH DESIGN:

The reliable C. Bechstein actions, developed in-house, provide excellent control and precise response to touch in every playing position, fast repetition, and a pleasant, even touch. Each key is individually balanced.

KEYBOARD & KEY SURFACES:

High-quality keyboard with keys made of solid spruce. White keys: Tactile synthetic covering | Black keys: Ebony

PEDALS – UPRIGHT PIANO:

Three pedals: Piano (Una Corda), Moderator, and Forte (Damper)

PEDALS – GRAND PIANO:

Three pedals: Piano (Una Corda), Sostenuto, and Forte (Damper)

All W. Hoffmann instruments feature hammerheads from C. Bechstein’s model-specific in-house production. The hammerheads, with a mahogany core and Wurzen felt, produce a pleasant, full tone.

PREMIUM HAMMER STOP RAIL:

The rail stops the hammers just before they reach the strings, silencing the acoustic piano. The natural touch and precise, controllable response remain fully preserved.

THE VARIO APP:

The VARIO app for iOS / iPadOS and Android serves as the setup and control center for playing in silent mode.

BLUETOOTH MIDI:

Smartphones, tablets, or notebooks can be connected to the piano via Bluetooth, as well as popular apps for learning, playing, or composing.

SENSOR TECHNOLOGY:

Optical sensors detect even the finest nuances of key and pedal movements without physical contact—providing digitally perfect control of dynamics, articulation, and agogics. Infrared sensor technology performs more than 200,000 measurements per second and calculates key velocity every 400 microseconds.

RETROFITTING

Acoustic W. Hoffmann Vision instruments can optionally be retrofitted with C. Bechstein Connect, Connect Pro, or a VARIO duet system. W. Hoffmann Vision VARIO instruments already feature an integrated Connect Pro and VARIO system but cannot be retrofitted with a VARIO duet system.
