Du Taihang

 

Born in 1966 in Beijing, Du Taihang started playing the piano at the age of six. His first solo recital was given in Beijing in 1976. He started his musical studies at the Central Conservatory of Music under the guidance of Prof. Zhao Pingguo and Li Qifang. Thanks to this success, he had the opportunity to take part in master classes given at the conservatory by pianists such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Paul Badura Skoda and Fou Ts'ong.

In 1992 Du Taihang went to Europe to continue his study. With the financial support of the “Heinrich Neuhaus Siftung” in Zurich and the “Chopin-Gesellschafft” in Hanover, he was able to study with Homero Francesch in Zurich and with Victor Merzhanov in Germany. In 2001, he accepted the invitation to become a full professor at the Central Conservatory of Music. Du Taihang was successful in various international piano competitions such as the Schevingen international Music Competitionin Holland in 1994 and the Geza Anda international piano concourse in Zurich in 1997.

He has played numerous recitals and concerts with orchestras throughout Europe and Asia, including engagements in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Demark, the United Kingdom, Poland, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. He has performed regularly at international music festivals such as the Schleswig-Holsten music Festival, Forum Feldkirch, dem Bodenseefestival in Germany, den Bregenzer Festspielen in Austria, and the Assiago music Festival in Italy, and has performed in many concert halls such as the Tonhalle in Zurich and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He has performed with symphony orchestras such as Tonhalleorchester Zuerich, Nordhollandisch Philharmonic, China Philharmonic Orchestra and the China National Symphony Orchestra.

Du Taihang made recordings for various radio and TV Stations like Westdeutscher Rundfunk in Koln and Danish Radio 2, Swiss National Music Studio, Japan NHK, China Central TV, and China Central People’s Broadcasting Station. He has recorded several CDs and given the Chinese premiere of piano works by Ginastera, Gubaidulina, and Piazzolla.
