Xi Zhai

“Bechstein grands have a particularly warm voice and a very pleasant action. For me, it’s always a great pleasure to perform on a Bechstein grand.”

Xi Zhai

Music specialists generally consider Xi Zhai to be at the beginning of a magnificent career. This young pianist, trained in Shanghai and Frankfurt, has already been awarded numerous prizes and performs regularly in Germany and China. Xi Zhai was born in 1987 in the Shanxi province to a family of musicians and started playing the piano at the age of six. He was trained in Shanghai before going to Frankfurt’s University of Music in 2009, where he graduated with a brilliant final concert in 2015.

Among the numerous prizes he has won are the Gold Medal at Shanghai’s Toyama Piano Competition and the Silver Medal at Hong Kong’s Asian Music Competition. Recipient of a grant awarded in 2013 by the ArteMusica Foundation for his exceptional talent, Xi Zhai has developed an impressive repertoire that includes all of the piano concertos by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Chopin, as well as works by Haydn, Schumann, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich.
