C. Bechstein at the Megève Festival in the French Alps

Concert technician Denijs de Winter and his wonderful C. Bechstein D 282 grand piano were high up in the clouds last week as they took part in the first edition of the music festival organized in Megève, the posh resort in the French Alps.

C. Bechstein is exclusive partner of the Megève Festival Savoy Truffle. The first edition of the event was held from August 17 to September 2 in the charming ski resort located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The audience greatly enjoyed the performances of outstanding artists such as Renaud Capuçon, Michel Dalberto, Dietrich Henschel, Jennifer Larmore and the Arditti Quartet. The ambitious program had been set up by Olivier Gachon (festival president) and Guido Houben (artistic director).

Valentina Lisitsa interpreted Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto Nr. 2 together with the Orchestre symphonique des Alpes directed by Oksana Lyniv. Pianist Irina Chkourindina, soprano Eva Fiechter and actor Maxime-Pierre Mahé paid homage to the life and work of Sergei Rachmaninoff, while pianist Markus Pawlik, soprano Raphaëlle Farman, baritone Dietrich Henschel and the Szymanowski Quartet honored composer Artur Schnabel. Last but not least, pianist Ambroise de Rancourt and soprano Marion Grange interpreted lieder by Alma and Gustav Mahler.

A posh ski resort located in the French Alps near Mont Blanc, Megève was developed by the Rothschild family in the 1920s as an alternative to Saint-Moritz. The audience of the Megève festival thus can enjoy both exquisite music performances and hiking in stunning mountain landscapes.
