Haiou Zhang - A virtuoso with a magic touch

Haiou Zhang already performed many times at C. Bechstein concerts. On april 21th 2017 he will play works by Bach, Beethoven, Ravel, Debussy and others.

Haiou Zhang was born in Beijing in 1984. He initially embarked on a degree at the Conservatory in his native city before moving to Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media in 2002. While still at university, he gave concerts and conducted tours of Europe, Asia, Canada, the United States and South America, performing with major ensembles (NDR Radiophilharmonie, Ontario Philharmonic Orchestra, St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic, Slovak Sinfonietta, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra, Ukraine State Philharmonic Orchestra). He has also performed solo recitals in major concert halls in Amsterdam, Berlin, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Hanover, Hamburg, Munich, Oslo, Beijing, São Paulo and Vienna.  

Moreover, Haiou Zhang has appeared at the following festivals: Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Kissinger Sommer, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Festival International de Musique de Besançon, Mozartiade Augsburg and Beethovenfest Bonn, not to mention the International Music Festival Buxtehude & Altes Land, which he founded in 2010 and where he is music director.   

To mark the Liszt Year 2011, he recorded a Hänssler Classic CD devoted to the great Romantic composer on a C. Bechstein D 282 grand piano. He also recorded two concertos by Mozart (KV 466 and 467). This evening’s recital gives him the opportunity to showcase his most recent recordings to the audience.
