Eugene Mursky was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 1975. He studied in Moscow under Lev Naumov until 1993, then in Trossingen, Hanover and Salzburg under Reinhard Becker, Einar Steen-Nökleberg and Hans Leygraf, respectively. A laureate of several international competitions, he was awarded first prize and prize for best Chopin interpretation at the 1994 World Piano Competition (London), and first prize at the Bremer Klavierwettbewerb (Bremen), the Edvard Grieg Competition (Oslo) and the Premio Pianistico “F. Denza” (Naples).
Mursky performs regularly as a soloist and a chamber musician on leading stages in Germany, other European countries, the United States and the Far East. His discography on the label Hänssler Classic includes Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto Nr. 1 as well as works by Schumann, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin and Prokofiev. Also worth noting is the CD with all piano works by Frédéric Chopin, recorded recently on the Profil label and warmly acclaimed by the music critics.
