Specifications

C. Bechstein Concert grand piano

15 months, 420 – 500 hours (depending on model)

Concert instruments with perfect voice and touch that offer maximum sound volume and freedom of interpretation.

Mountain spruce grown slowly at elevations of 1,000 meters and higher in Val di Fiemme, Dolomites (similar to the tonewood used by Antonio Stradivari).

Each soundboard is formed as a membrane with its projection surface adjusted to the instrument’s specific acoustic assembly, just like in violin-making.

Finest spruce, mahogany, pine and sycamore maple.

The special composition of the cast iron and the particular form of the frame dampen its vibrations, boost the string energy and improve the transmission speed.

The extremely smooth frame surface and the optimized arrangement of all sound-amplifying elements guarantee harmonic partials with the highest possible frequencies.

The B, C and D models are provided with an adjustable cast-iron resonator that optimizes both the timbre and the radiating force of the treble strings.

Agraffes ensure a precise positioning of the bass and middle section strings. The treble strings rest on a capo bar that is part of the cast-iron frame.

The bridges are made of high-quality vertically aligned sycamore maple layers using state-of-the-art CNC technology. Precision down to a hundredth of a millimeter guarantees perfect transmission of sound and frequencies to the soundboard.

Reinforced wood-dovetail joints between rim-posts and the inner rim.

Superior quality picn-block with only a few crossed North-American hard-maple layers. Cast-iron frame without dowels, a traditional and high-quality process direct torque for concert pianos.

Durable, resilient keyboard with a lever ratio that is ideal for concert performances.

Black keys covered with ebony wooden tops. White keys: high-quality mineral key-tops available as an option. Keyboard designed by the C. Bechstein R&D department.

Precise and highly complex professional action made up of 2,000 parts specifically calibrated to concert standards. Designed in accordance to C. Bechstein’s Keyboard and Action Engineering and Concert-stage, Geometry standards for performers.

The hammerheads made by C. Bechstein Germany deliver the best dynamics and finest nuances for concert standards.

Optimum weight and friction coefficients achieved by using the latest design technology.

Optimum repetition speed thanks to the use of highest quality materials, ultra-precise calibration of each action and the accurate assembly of the various parts.

Ultra-precise touch-weight distribution of the masses and spring force for each individual tone.

Optimal individual voicing by Concert Master Piano Makers gives the musician additional aspects of quality.

Cabinets manufactured at the C. Bechstein production sites from some twenty top-quality parts.

Elegant finish in every detail where a highly professional technique is used in applying high-gloss lacquer, followed by a longer drying process. Then, with numerous applications of hand-crafted sanding, from rough to very smooth, with different grains of abrasive material, the cabinet finish receives a texture close to the smoothenss of skin. With a number of polishing steps employing different waxes and polishing materials, a superior high gloss finish is finally achieved.
