Idil Biret, born 1941 in Ankara, studied at the Paris Conservatory with Nadia Boulanger (composition) and Alfred Cortot (piano). She was later Wilhelm Kempff's master student. Extremely lively concert activity in the most important international music centers with the greatest orchestras such as London Symphony, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Orchestre National de France, with famous conductors (Keilberth, Kempe, Leinsdorf) and chamber music partners (Menuhin). Idil Biret was jury member at numerous competitions, among others at the Van Cliburn Competition and Concours de Reine Elisabeth. She was also juror of the 2006 1st Carl Bechstein Piano Competition Ruhr and has often played concerts on Bechstein, among others in the Philharmonic Essen. Extremely large discography: She has among others recorded all solo piano compositions by Brahms, Chopin and Rachmaninow. Idil Biret has received numerous prizes for her recordings, for example in 1995 the Grand Prix du Disque Frédéric Chopin for her complete Chopin performance.
