C. Bechstein celebrates its 165th anniversary

C. Bechstein celebrates its 165th anniversary: On October 1, 1853, Carl Bechstein founded his own company on Behrenstraße 56 in Berlin – the starting point for a success story. Today C. Bechstein is one of the most renowned piano manufacturers in the world.

Carl Bechstein founded C. Bechstein in 1853

C. Bechstein has been inspiring the world since Hans von Bülow premiered Liszt's Piano Sonata in B minor in Berlin on January 22, 1857. He presented the revolutionary work in its orchestral power and sonority on the Carl Bechsteins first concert grand piano. Famous composers such as Franz Liszt, Richard Wagner, Claude Debussy, Alexander Scriabin, Richard Strauss, Ferruccio Busoni and many others enjoyed composing and performing on their Bechsteins. Also thousands of pianists have given C. Bechstein the reputation of being one of the best piano and grand piano makers in the world.

C. Bechstein is a success story

The C. Bechstein Group is in an excellent economic position today and was able to significantly increase its sales in the first half of 2018. The acquisition of the piano house Merta in Linz, Austria, in July 2018 is a further step on the way to even more presence through its own C. Bechstein Centers.

Stefan Freymuth, principal shareholder and CEO of C. Bechstein Pianofortefabrik AG, emphasizes:

"I see myself as the first servant of this traditional company and would like to lead it as a native Berliner and music lover into an even more successful future. That is why we have been investing all our profits in the further development and constant improvement of our instruments for years, as well as in our sales network. Especially the work with pianists is important to us, as they make our instruments sound so wonderful!"
