Ever since his spectacular success in the 2011 ARD Competition, Alexej Gorlatch (born in the Ukraine in 1988) has been regarded as one of the most exciting pianists of his generation. He joined Berlin University of the Arts as a junior pianist at the tender age of twelve before continuing his education under Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media two years later.
His success in the ARD International Music Competition (first prize, audience award and several special prizes) followed a period of six years in which he won first prizes in nine international competitions, including the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition (2006), the German Music Competition (2008), the International Anton Rubinstein Competition, and the Dublin International Piano Competition (both in 2009), not to mention a silver medal at the Leeds International Piano Competition.
Alexej Gorlatch performs regularly on the world’s most prestigious stages (Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, Salle Alfred Cortot in Paris, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Festspielhaus in Salzburg, Suntory Hall and Opera City Concert Hall in Tokyo, the Herkulessaal and Philharmonic Hall in Munich, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic).
He has just recorded a CD at Sony Classical featuring works for the piano and orchestra by Stravinsky, playing with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin conducted by Alondra de la Parra. His discography also includes studio recordings on the labels Oehms Classics, BR Klassik, Genuin and RAM.
