Yekwon Sunwoo: Van Cliburn prizewinner gives a first Bechstein recital

The young Korean pianist and prizewinner Yekwon Sunwoo is to give a recital at Berlin’s Konzerthaus on March 15, 2019 performing works by Schubert, Chopin and Richard Strauss.

YEKWON SUNWOO, gold medallist of the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, was born in Anyang, Korea, in 1989. He studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School, and currently studies under Bernd Goetzke in Hanover, Germany. A prizewinner at various competitions (2015 International German Piano Award, 2014 Vendome Prize, 2013 Sendai International Music Competition, 2012 William Kapell International Piano Competition), he has performed with such great ensembles as the Juilliard Orchestra directed by Itzhak Perlman at the Avery Fisher Hall, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre national de Belgique and the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra. Moreover, he has given recitals at Carnegie Hall (New York), Hamarikyu Asahi Hall (Tokyo), Wigmore Hall (London) and Kunho Art Hall (Seoul), as well as at Salle Cortot and Radio France in Paris. His second CD with works by Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt was released on the Genuin label.
