William Youn: New Sony artist honors Vienna

William Youn to perform at Berlin’s Konzerthaus on October 19, 2018, as part of the C. Bechstein concert series, interpreting works by Romantic composers such as Brahms, Liszt, Schubert, and Clara and Robert Schumann.

WILLIAM YOUN was born in Korea in 1982. He studied in the USA and in Hanover, Germany and held a scholarship at the Piano Academy Lake Como, where he worked with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Dmitri Bashkirov, Andreas Staier, William Grant Naboré and Menahem Pressler.

Now based in Munich, William performs with major ensembles the world over, including Cleveland Orchestra, Münchner Philharmoniker, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Mariinsky Theater Orchestra and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he enjoys close collaborations with Nils Mönkemeyer, Sabine Meyer, Julian Steckel, Veronika Eberle, Johannes Moser and the Signum Quartet.

His discography includes all piano sonatas by Mozart (an Oehms Classics CD series that won several prizes) and two chamber music CDs with Nils Mönkemeyer (Sony Classics). His recital at the Konzerthaus will include the works to be recorded on his first solo album released on the Sony label.
