Kotaro Fukuma - Japanese perspective

On November 8, 2019, at 8:00 pm, the Japanese pianist Kotaro Fukuma is to perform at the Konzerthaus in Berlin as part of the C. Bechstein concert series, interpreting Ravel’s La Valse as well as various works by composers such Bach, Schumann, Debussy, Fauré and Satie.

Kotaro Fukuma was born in Tokyo. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris under Bruno Rigutto and Marie-Françoise Bucquet, at the Universität der Künste in Berlin under Klaus Hellwig and at the International Piano Academy Lake Como.

A laureate at several international competitions (Paloma O’Shea/Santander, Arthur Rubinstein/Tel Aviv, Maj Lind/Helsinki, Gina Bachauer/Salt Lake City, Cleveland International Piano Competition), Kotaro Fukuma has performed at the world’s most famous venues (Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center/New York, Wigmore Hall/London, Philharmonie and Konzerthaus/Berlin, Gasteig/Munich, Gewandhaus/Leipzig, Suntory Hall and Opera City/Tokyo) together with great orchestras and leading conductors such as Asher Fisch, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Hanna Lintu and François-Xavier Roth.

His discography includes twelve albums that were highly praised by music magazines such as Gramophone, Diapason, Le Monde de la Musique, Klassik Heute, Piano News or Classic Today.
