Kotaro Fukuma was born in Tokyo. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris under Bruno Rigutto and Marie-Françoise Bucquet, at the Universität der Künste in Berlin under Klaus Hellwig and at the International Piano Academy Lake Como.
A laureate at several international competitions (Paloma O’Shea/Santander, Arthur Rubinstein/Tel Aviv, Maj Lind/Helsinki, Gina Bachauer/Salt Lake City, Cleveland International Piano Competition), Kotaro Fukuma has performed at the world’s most famous venues (Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center/New York, Wigmore Hall/London, Philharmonie and Konzerthaus/Berlin, Gasteig/Munich, Gewandhaus/Leipzig, Suntory Hall and Opera City/Tokyo) together with great orchestras and leading conductors such as Asher Fisch, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Hanna Lintu and François-Xavier Roth.
His discography includes twelve albums that were highly praised by music magazines such as Gramophone, Diapason, Le Monde de la Musique, Klassik Heute, Piano News or Classic Today.
