Konstantin Lifschitz was enrolled at the famous Gnessin music academy in Moscow at the age of five. Subsequently, he studied under Alfred Brendel, Leon Fleisher, Charles Rosen, Karl-Ulrich Schnabel, Vladimir Tropp, Fù Cōng and Rosalyn Tureck.
Lifschitz has performed with the most famous of the world’s orchestras under such conductors as Mstislav Rostropovich, Bernard Haitink, Sir Roger Norrington, Michail Jurowski and Marek Janowski. As a soloist, he has participated in numerous music festivals and performed in the greatest concert halls of the world. And as an enthusiastic chamber musician, he has played with partners such as Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Gidon Kremer, Maxim Vengerov, Misha Maisky, Mstislav Rostropovich, Sol Gabetta and Vadim Repin.
His debut CD with works by Bach, Schumann, Medtner and Scriabin earned him the 1995 Echo Klassik “Most Promising Artist of the Year” award. The following year, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for his interpretation of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Among his other recordings is an interpretation of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, Books I and II, recorded live during the Miami International Piano Festival (DVD, Vai, 2008), as well as all of Beethoven’s violin sonatas, performed together with Daishin Kashimoto (Warner Classics, 2014).
A fellow of London’s Royal Academy of Music, Konstantin Lifschitz has been teaching at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts since 2008.
