Etsuko Hirose - One Thousand and One Nights

ARD Prizewinner Etsuko Hirose will take the audience on a journey to the Orient with Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade at the C. Bechstein Piano Recital in the Konzerthaus on April 17, 2026. Mozart, Czerny and Chopin are also on the program.

Born in Nagoya, Japan, Etsuko Hirose began piano lessons at the age of three and was performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 26 with orchestra by the time she was six. After studying at the École Normale de Musique de Paris and the Paris Consevatoire in the classes of Bruno Rigutto and Nicholas Angelich, she was a student of Alfred Brendel, Marie-Françoise Bucquet and Jorge Chaminé. Etsuko Hirose has won prizes at prestigious international competitions such as the Frederic Chopin Competition for Young Pianists in Moscow, the G. B. Viotti Competition and the Munich ARD Competition. In 1999, she won first prize in the Martha Argerich Competition, which launched her solo career. She has performed at the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Suntory Hall and Orchard Hall in Tokyo, accompanied by leading orchestras. Her performances are regularly broadcast on Arte, France 3, France Musique, Radio Classique and NHK. Numerous recordings for Denon, Mirare, Warner, Danacord and Continuo Classics document her work, her latest recording "Scheherazade" was released by Danacord in 2024.
