Haiou Zhang ranks among the most successful Chinese musicians of his generation and performs the world over, from Berlin to Toronto and from Paris to São Paulo. His playing stands out for its technical perfection and its passionate, authentic style. Following his studies at Beijing Conservatory and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover, he gave celebrated performances at the 2005 and 2006 editions of the Braunschweig Classix Festival, and then at similar events in France, Italy, Spain and Germany (Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania). He has also had great successes at some of the world’s most famous venues (Philharmonic Hall in Berlin, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Sala São Paulo, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg), performing either solo or with such great orchestras as NDR Radiophilharmonie (conducted by Andrew Manze), Deutsches Kammerorchester, Beijing Symphony Orchestra and Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, Haiou Zhang founded the IMF Festival (International Music Festival BuxtehudeAltes LandHarburg) to promote talented young musicians. And in the “Liszt Year 2011”, he chose a C. Bechstein concert grand piano to record his first CD, with works by the great Romantic composer, which was praised by international critics. After this debut album, he recorded three more CDs on the same label (Hänssler Classic) that were just as enthusiastically received.
