Angela Boutros

"On a Bechstein, black and white becomes a palette of colours."

Angela Boutros

Angela is a Syrian-Belgian pianist and composer based in Berlin. She began studying the piano in Syria, where classical music formed her foundation and improvisation became a natural part of her musical language. In 2014, she moved to Germany due to the war, a transition that deepened her connection to the piano as a space for storytelling. Her Levantine roots, combined with her curiosity for a wide spectrum of genres, shape a distinctive style composed of contemporary textures, Arabic maqam music, and extended techniques.

She has premiered and performed her compositions at prestigious venues including the Berliner Philharmonie, Dubai Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and Pierre Boulez Saal, and at international festivals such as Music in the Ancient Ears in AlUla, Saudi Arabia, and Arabic Music Days in Berlin, and the Morgenland Festival in Osnabrück where she made her debut as soloist and composer with the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra, premiering her works Echoes for Palmyra and Ebla. Angela is a member of the Ramal Ensemble, contributing as both composer and pianist to the ensemble’s original repertoire.

As a film composer, she has scored numerous productions for broadcasters including RBB, ZDF, and 3sat. Films featuring her scores have been presented at major festivals such as the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the FFC East European Cinema Festival, the Landshut Short Film Festival, and the Max Ophüls Preis, where Geister and Parzellen des Glücks were nominated for the Best Film Prize. Angela completed her Bachelor’s degree and Artist Diploma in Piano at the Barenboim-Said Akademie, where she studied under renowned musicians including Daniel Barenboim, Sir András Schiff, Emanuel Krasovsky, and Michael Wendeberg. She later completed a Master’s degree in Film Music Composition at the Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in the studio of award winning composers Ulrich Reuter and Karim Sebastian Elias. During her studies, she took part in masterclasses with renowned composers Volker Bertelmann, Dascha Dauenhauer, and John Gürtler.
