Together with the renowned Brucknerhaus Linz, we have curated a new concert series for the 2019 / 2020 concert series: The C. Bechstein Piano Evenings. The series was officially presented to the public as part of the Brucknerhaus' Season Press Convference by Klaus Luger (Mayor of Linz), Dietmar Kerschbaum (Artistic Director LIVA and Brucknerhaus), Thomas Ziegler (Managing Director LIVA) as well as Stefan Freymuth and Gregor Willmes (C. Bechstein Pianoforte AG).
Saleem Ashkar is going to open the series on 17 October 2019. Further recitals will feature the Silver- Garburg Piano Duo (12 DEcember 2019), Chinese virtuoso Haiou Zhang (27 February 2020) and musical poet William Youn (30 April 2020). The last C. Bechstein Piano Evening on 20 June 2020 is reserved for the First Prize winner of the first Bechstein-Bruckner-Competition 2020.
Ever since Carl Bechstein open his Piano Manufactory in Berlin in 1853, the company has worked closely with many different artists and supported many young pianists. The young Hans von Bülow for instance, who would later become the first Principal Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic, premiered the famous Sonata in B minor, written by his teacher Franz Liszt, on Carl Bechsteins first concert grand piano. Liszt and Wagner admired Bechstein's instruments, and Debussy said that piano music ought only to be written for the Bechstein.
The company continues this tradition to this day, e.g. by way of a succesful concert series at Konzerthaus Berlin and a new concert series at the Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia in Prague. And when the highly regarded Klaviersalon Merta became part of the Bechstein family, we curated this new concert series in Linz in collaboration with the Brucknerhaus Linz.
