Soundboard (wood)
Mountain spruce grown slowly at elevations of 1,000 meters and higher in Val di Fiemme, Dolomites (similar to the tonewood used by Antonio Stradivari).

Each soundboard is formed as a membrane with its projection surface adjusted to the instrument’s specific acoustic assembly, just like in violin-making.

Cast-iron frame

The B, C and D models are provided with an adjustable cast-iron resonator that optimizes both the timbre and the radiating force of the treble strings.
Agraffes / Capo bar
Agraffes ensure a precise positioning of the bass and middle section strings. The treble strings rest on a capo bar that is part of the cast-iron frame.
C. Bechstein Bridge Calibration System (BCS)
The bridges are made of high-quality vertically aligned sycamore maple layers using state-of-the-art CNC technology. Precision down to a hundredth of a millimeter guarantees perfect transmission of sound and frequencies to the soundboard.
Wood joints
Reinforced wood-dovetail joints between rim-posts and the inner rim.
Pinblock (material)
Superior quality picn-block with only a few crossed North-American hard-maple layers. Cast-iron frame without dowels, a traditional and high-quality process direct torque for concert pianos.
Keyboard
Durable, resilient keyboard with a lever ratio that is ideal for concert performances.

Black keys covered with ebony wooden tops. White keys: high-quality mineral key-tops available as an option. Keyboard designed by the C. Bechstein R&D department.

Action assembly
Precise and highly complex professional action made up of 2,000 parts specifically calibrated to concert standards. Designed in accordance to C. Bechstein’s Keyboard and Action Engineering and Concert-stage, Geometry standards for performers.
Action assembly (hammerheads)
The hammerheads made by C. Bechstein Germany deliver the best dynamics and finest nuances for concert standards.

Materials: walnut core for a colorful, voluminous, distinct and precise –nonetheless warm sound, covered with felt made in Germany of New Zealand wool using a secret, traditional method.

Cabinets manufactured at the C. Bechstein production sites from some twenty top-quality parts.

Elegant finish in every detail where a highly professional technique is used in applying high-gloss lacquer, followed by a longer drying process. Then, with numerous applications of hand-crafted sanding, from rough to very smooth, with different grains of abrasive material, the cabinet finish receives a texture close to the smoothenss of skin. With a number of polishing steps employing different waxes and polishing materials, a superior high gloss finish is finally achieved.
