Nikolai Tokarev, born 1983 in Moscow, studied with Ada Traub and Wladimir Tropp at the Gnessin Music School in Moscow, Dina Parakhina at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and Barbara Szczepanska in Düsseldorf. In 2000 he was award winner at the 10th Eurovision Grand Prix of Young Musicians in Bergen, Norway. He has regularly appeared as guest musician at such international festivals as Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Rheingau Music Festival and Kissinger Sommer as well as with important orchestras, like the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg and Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich. In 2006 he received the "Orpheum Public Award" at the 8th International Orpheum Music Festival in Tonhalle Zurich. In the same year he won second prize and the Public's Prize at the Géza-Anda Competition in Zurich. In 2007 Nikolai Tokarev published his first piano recital with compositions by Chopin, Alexander Rosenblatt and Schubert at Sony Classical. In 2008 his French album with César, Debussy, Franck, Rameau and Ravel appeared. In 2009 followed a CD with piano concertos by Chopin and Grieg. Recently Tokarev has performed Rachmaninow's Piano Concerto No. 3 and Tschaikowsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia under Vladimir Spivakov.
