Anatol Ugorski, born 1942 in Leningrad, studied at the city's conservatory with Nadeschda Golumbowskaja and later taught there. In 1962 he began to play concert engagements under the persisting restrictions of the Soviet system, was soon considered as expert for music of the 20th century (world premieres of works by Soviet composers). Due to political reasons, he fled in 1990 through East Berlin to London, where he rapidly began a great international career. Anatol Ugorski has played in the most eminent halls and festivals of the world, collaborated with the most famous conductors and most important orchestras. He has recorded numerous CDs for Deutsche Grammophon. Anatol Ugorski was professor at Detmold Music University.
