Eric Lu: Laureate of several prizes on his way to the top

Eric Lu will interpret works by Romantic composers such as Schubert, Chopin and Brahms at the Konzerthaus in Berlin on March 13, 2020, at 8:00 pm on the occasion of the fourth recital in the C. Bechstein concert series.

Eric Lu was born in Massachusetts in 1997 and caused a stir in 2015 when he won the Warsaw Chopin International Competition at the age of seventeen. In 2017, he also succeeded in the Internationaler Deutscher Pianistenpreis and the National Chopin Piano Competition in the United States, prior to being awarded First Prize at the 2018 edition of the Leeds International Piano Competition.

Eric has performed with such great ensembles as the Oslo Filharmonien, the Filharmonia Narodowa and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic (conducted by Wassily Petrenko) at some of the world’s most famous venues (Wigmore Hall/London, Carnegie Hall/New York, Elbphilharmonie/Hamburg, Gewandhaus/Leipzig, Alte Oper/Frankfurt, Auditoria Nacional/Madrid, Metropolitan Hall/Tokyo).

Eric’s discography includes a Warner Classics CD with works by Beethoven and Chopin recorded during the 2018 Leeds Competition, an album recorded during a recital at the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, and a third CD with works by Mozart, Schubert and Brahms released on the Genuin Classics label. Eric Lu currently studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia under Jonathan Biss and Robert McDonald and is also a pupil of Dang Thai Son.
