Alina Shalamova and Nikolay Shalamov, also known as the Shalamov Piano Duo established in 2009, play in a stunning symbiosis and are already highly successful despite their young age. They were particularly brilliant at the 2015 edition of the Internationaler ARD Musikwettbewerb in Munich, winning not only First Prize, but also the Audience Prize and the prize for the best performance of a composition by Ferran Cruixent commissioned especially for the competition.
Alina and Nikolay began playing together while they were studying at the National Music Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria, under Professor Milena Mollova. They also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock under the brothers Volker and Hans-Peter Stenzl. During this time, the two pianists won First Prize at the International Franz Schubert Competition organized in Ruse. Since then, they have also been awarded the Prize of the Bruno Frey Foundation.
The Shalamov Piano Duo has performed in major cities throughout Europe, including Madrid (Auditorio Nacional), Barcelona (Palau de la Música), Brussels (Palais des Beaux-arts) and Luxembourg (Philharmonie), and participates regularly in various festivals in Spain (Madrid, Toledo, Santander), Germany (Nymphenburger Sommer, Rheingau Musikfestival) and the Czech Republic (Concertino Praha).
