Awards:
1st prize: 15.000 Euros, including concertengagements with major orchestras in prestigious German concert halls, at festivals and in Bechstein Centers.
2nd prize: 6.000 Euro. This includes important concert engagements.
3rd prize: 4.000 Euro including concert engagements.
Special prizes will also be awarded.

Competition rules for 2006 (short Version)

REPERTOIRE: The repertoire of the competition should contain works of composers associated with the legendary sound of Bechstein, such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Reger, Franck, Debussy, Skriabin, Glasunov, Rachmaninoff, Anton Rubinstein, Granados, Busoni, Godowsky, Bartók, Schostakowitsch.

STAGES:
Stage 1 (Matinee): A programme of 45 minutes; mandatory is the presentation of one work from J. S. Bach’s (for details see PDF)

Stage 2 (Recital): A programme of about one hour, containing a Beethoven Sonata. It is advised to chose the programme in such way that a balance between shorter and larger pieces is maintained. Please note that in putting together the programme its' originality and fantasy as well as the inclusion of rarely played works will be one of the criteria in deciding upon the admission to and during the competition.

Stage 3 (chambermusic rehearsal with string quartett), 6 participants A piano concerto of W. A. Mozart (from KV 271, 413, 414, 415, 449) as well as a piano concerto of F. Chopin (no.1 or no.2). This stage consists of a working rehearsal which the jury is scheduled to attend and a performance of one or more of the rehearsed movements.

Finals (concerto with orchestra), 3 participants The same piano concertos will be played with orchestra.
